Blind wells are commonly installed in areas where site access for
an exit hole is unavailable. Typically blind wells are installed
under chemical manufacturing facilities, airports, pond/lagoons and
in highly urbanized areas. Blind well advantages include:
- Less materials required
- No exit hole location needed
- A surface casing can be cemented through the curve section
- Wells can be drilled from offsite areas without creating any structural
surface impact
- No requirement for pipe on the exit
- Reduced hazards from elimination of pipe
at the exit
Blind Well Profile.
Blind wells have been installed to vertical depths of up to 175 feet
with total measured lengths of over 1000 feet. This typical blind well
has the following parameters:
- True vertical depth: 45'
- Screen section: 600'
- Total horizontal displacement: 875’
- Entry angle: 12º
- Curve radius: 600'
- Step off distance: 275'
